EUS guided management of "Carpeting" Gastric Varices
Poster Abstract

Abstract Text

“Carpeting” of gastric varices is uncommon finding seen in patients of portal hypertension with dilated tortuous venous channels widespread across the gastric lumen. Typically, endoscopic management is not considered feasible for these patients due to multiple columns of varices.

Case # 1: 37-year-old male with chronic pancreatitis with left-sided portal hypertension with multiple episodes of melena secondary to multiple gastric varices carpeting the body and fundus. Case # 2: 38 year-old-male with extra-hepatic portal venous obstruction with hematemesis and melena with fundal varices and multiple columns of “carpeting” varices. Both patients underwent EUS-guided coil and glue injection successfully, with obliteration. Both had no adverse events and bleeding on 3-month follow-up evaluation. EUS guided management of carpeiting gastric varices is a viable option.
