Aims
To evaluate efficacy and safety of Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) in the treatment of various gastrointestinal lesions
Methods
This is a retrospective, descriptive, and monocentric study conducted at the gastroenterology department of the Bab El Oued university hospital, including all patients who underwent APC for various indications between January 2022 and October 2025. Data on patient demographics, indications, technical success, complications, and follow-up were collected and analyzed.
Results
We collected data from 114 patients with a mean age of 67.69 years and a sex ratio of 1.92. The indications for APC were gastrointestinal bleeding related to: angiodysplasias in 45.61% of cases (80.76% colonic, 15.38% gastric, and 3.86% duodenal), radiation proctitis in 35.08% of cases (32 cases of prostate cancer and 8 cases of cervical cancer) , severe hypertensive gastropathy in 14.03% of cases, and solitary rectal ulcer in 5.28% of cases. Most patients required multiple APC sessions, and technical success was achieved in 111 patients (97.37%). No complications were observed in this series.
Conclusions
APC is a reliable and well-tolerated treatment option for patients with gastro-intestinal bleeding and other lesions, offering a high technical success rate and minimal risk of complications.
